What therapies are available?
The mainstay of therapy for metastatic prostate cancer is androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), sometimes referred to as hormone deprivation therapy. This is available in various forms at Fore River Urology. These are available directly from the Fore River Urology in-office dispensary.
ADT forms:

- Once daily ORAL pill, GnRH antagonist (relugolix / Orgovyx)
- Once every 6 month depot injection of GnRH agonist (leuprolide / Eligard)
- Once every 3 month depot injection of GnRH agonist (leuprolide / Eligard)
- Bilateral orchiectomy (surgical removal of the testicles)
Novel hormonal agents:
Major advances in prostate cancer care have been the development of specialized novel hormonal therapeutic agents in the form of oral medicines. All of these medicines have improved overall survival and extended the quality and quantity of life in patients with metastatic prostate cancer. Hormone Resistant Prostate Cancer:
Some prostate cancers after being exposed to an extended period of hormone deprivation therapy can eventually develop resistance to that medicine. This form of advanced prostate cancer is called castration resistant prostate cancer. Click the heading above to learn more.
Traditional Chemotherapy
IV Docetaxel, a common chemotherapy drug can be beneficial to patient’s in specific clinical situations. Given that prostate cancer often requires a multi-disciplinary approach (radiation, radiology, medical oncology, urologic oncology), rest assured that your urologist/urologic oncologist at Fore River Urology will be managing your overall care and medications while involving other teams as needed.
