Prostate Cancer High Risk Clinic

High-Risk Prostate Screening Clinic

Focused Screening and Personalized Risk Assessment for Men at Increased Risk of Prostate Cancer

At Fore River Urology, we offer a dedicated High-Risk Prostate Screening Clinic for men with an elevated risk of developing prostate cancer due to family history, genetic mutations, or other hereditary cancer syndromes. Our goal is to detect aggressive prostate cancers early—when most treatable—and to tailor screening and follow-up based on your personal risk profile.

Who Is Considered High-Risk?

You may be eligible for our High-Risk Prostate Screening Clinic if you have any of the following:

  • A father, brother, or uncle diagnosed with prostate cancer before age 60
  • A family history of metastatic or fatal prostate cancer
  • A mother, sister, or aunt diagnosed with:
    • Aggressive breast cancer (especially before age 50)
    • Ovarian cancer
    • Pancreatic cancer
  • Known carriers of BRCA1, BRCA2, or HOXB13 mutations
  • A personal or family history of Lynch syndrome or other hereditary cancer syndromes such as Li-Fraumeni syndrome (p53 gene)
  • African American men with a strong family history of prostate or breast cancer
  • Any of the following mutations: ATM, PALB2, CHEK2, RAD51D, ATR, NBN, GEN1, RAD51C, MRE11A, BRIP1, FAM175A

What to Expect at Your Visit

Our High-Risk Prostate Screening Clinic provides:

  • A comprehensive family and medical history review
  • Genetic risk assessment, potential genetic testing (if appropriate), and referrals for genetic counseling if appropriate
  • A personalized screening plan that may include:
    • PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) testing
    • Digital rectal exam (DRE)
    • MRI or advanced imaging if needed
    • Blood or Urine-based biomarkers
  • Ongoing monitoring and follow-up tailored to your risk level

Why Early Detection Matters

Men with a high-risk background often develop prostate cancer earlier and may be more likely to develop aggressive forms of the disease. With regular screening and close monitoring, we can identify early signs of cancer and intervene with the most effective treatment options available—including minimally invasive robotic surgery when appropriate.
